The Saints (23-10-1) threatened again in the fifth with two on and one out, but Talarico got East leadoff hitter John Dellostritto to ground into a double play to end the inning.
But, by that time, Talarico was able to just go out and throw strikes thanks to his offense.
The Cadets scored three runs in the second, following by a five-spot in the third to open the floodgates and take control.
“We were fairly confident coming into today that if Nick did his job and kept the ball over the plate, that it would come down to us hitting,” said Marmion catcher Chase Stanke, a Minnesota recruit. “Once we put bat on ball, everything kind of got rolling for us. Nick did a great job keeping the ball in the zone, keeping the infielders involved and pitched a heck of a game at a big time for us.”
