In her second season with the Geneva Foxes, a youth fastpitch team, her catching career was born. It all stemmed from Keller's simple desire to try a new position, and have a direct impact on the game pitch-by-pitch.
Catching future Geneva teammate Ali Dierks during a game against the Oswego Outlaws, Keller threw out the leadoff runner trying to steal second.
The following batter reached base, but the steal attempt was to no avail – Keller got her, too.
Then, another walk.
Is there any question how the third out came to be?
"It was a three up, three down inning that was 100 percent the catcher," Geneva coach Greg Dierks said. "With the third girl that got thrown out stealing, the third base coach for the other team looked over and said: 'Just so you know, I didn't send that one.'"
