Groovin' in Sugar Grove

Residents ready to groove in the Grove

SUGAR GROVE – There will be fun and music outside the Sugar Grove Public Library the evening of June 22 as a concert event called Groovin’ in the Grove takes over the back lawn.

Thirsty Boots Band will perform upbeat modern country tunes on a lit stage.

“It’s going to be a fun, free event in their own community,” said Shannon Halikias, library director of Sugar Grove Public Library.

“They can talk to their neighbors, they can tap their toes, they can dance … and just enjoy fun in their own community without having to drive to another community.”

Halikias said communities such as Naperville, Bolingbrook, Batavia and Aurora regularly have music events.

“Part of enjoying summertime is to be outside and with your family and hearing music,” Halikias said. “So we wanted to bring some of the same concepts to Sugar Grove.”

St. Charles resident Ken Cady plays rhythm guitar and does vocals for the band. He described the band’s sound as “Nash pop.”

“We do a cross between pop music and country because when we’re playing out you don’t have an all-country audience,” Cady said. “You have to play to the audience.”

The band will play country cover songs from artists such as The Band Perry, Miranda Lambert, Sugarland and as far back as John Denver. Songs include “Little White Church,” “Done,” “Fastest Girl in Town” and “Down in Mississippi.”

“We’re all very passionate about playing some fun music and making sure the crowd goes away nice and sweaty and that they had a good time,” Cady said. “So it will be a good time.”

Bernie’s Bully Dogs food truck will be on-site. The menu includes hot dogs, chips, drinks and Skittles candy. A signature Bully Dog has caramelized onions, brown mustard, celery salt and pickles.

Halikias said people can bring a picnic, lawn chairs, and adult beverages.

“So if you think of an outdoor park concert, that will be kind of the flavor of it,” Halikias said.

The concert will run from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on the back lawn of the library, 125 South Municipal Drive.

Groovin’ in the Grove is put on by the Sugar Grove Arts and Entertainment Committee.
