The Fox Valley Rising Stars 2018 Vocal Competition, organized by Soirée Lyrique, will take place during Fest on the Fox at 2:30 p.m. July 14 at Carpenter Park, 351 Carpenter Blvd., Carpentersville. The competition is sponsored by the Barbara and Barre Seid Foundation in memory of Stu Ainsworth of St. Charles.

In case of rain, visit www.soireelyrique.org for announcement of an alternate location, according to a news release. If necessary, the competition may be moved to Evangelical Covenant Church, 1565 Larkin Ave., Elgin.

The vocal contest, organized in collaboration with the Northern Kane County Chamber of Commerce, offers cash awards in two age groups featuring Broadway and classical singers.

“We want to encourage the young singers,” Soiree Lyrique Artistic Director Solange Sior said. “There’s so much talent out there and so few opportunities for them.”

Singers will be divided into age groups of 18 years and younger and 19 years and older. Cash awards for those 18 and younger include $100 for first place in Broadway; $150 for first place classical; $50 for second place and $25 for third place. Awards for age 19 and older include $200 for first place in Broadway; $300 for first place classical; $100 for second place and $50 for third place.

The finalists were determined after a June 30 preliminary round.
