Batavia Youth Football will launch its new season with its first community tailgate event.

BATAVIA – The community can attend an inaugural tailgate event Aug. 25, launching the new season of Batavia Youth Football, announced the Batavia Park District.

Program participants, which include all levels of grades one through six, will have a mandatory practice from 3 to 4 p.m. at Batavia High School, 1201 Main St., according to a news release. The tailgating is set to begin at 4:15 p.m. before the seventh-grade scrimmage. Hot dogs, chips and a drink will be provided to all who attend after the practice.

High school players will be present to encourage the kids, as well as sign autographs and jerseys. High school football staff will discuss the importance of the football league and answer questions.

The BYF Board and BHS football staff also will address any concerns parents may have about tackle football. BYF is a Heads Up Football certified league, and through its association with USA Football, follows specific guidelines set by the governing body of the sport.
