Railside 4/7 steps off Saturday

Still time to hit the streets for Elburn charity run

Weather is looking to be slightly cooler this weekend, and with those temps in the low 80s, it’s a great time to get outside and enjoy the dog days of summer. This Saturday, you can do just that while lending a hand to a local charity.

Railside Charities NFP of Elburn is hosting its second annual race day, August 18 at Kaneland’s John Stewart Elementary School, 817 Prairie Valley St, Elburn.

Railside 4/7 offers 3 race options, a 4-miler, a 7-miler and a one-mile fun run/walk.The 4-mile and 7-mile courses cross the Union Pacific West rail line via the Anderson Road bridge, offering a stunning view of Elburn and the surrounding countryside.

Railside Charities is a 501(c)(3) founded last year, and its array of fundraisers and charity events, to date, include Fund the Freezer, a late spring effort for the Elburn Food Pantry and last year's race, which helped to fund both the pantry and the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance’s Camp I Am Me, a camp for young burn victims. This year's race day will support Lazarus House and Kaneland sports boosters, as well.

Walk-in registration still is available at Railside Citrus, 109 N. Main St, Elburn, on Aug. 16 from 4-7 p.m. and Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and on race day, Aug. 18, from 6-7 a.m. at the school.

A flag-raising ceremony and National Anthem will take place at 7 a.m. The 1-mile fun run/walk starts promptly at 7:15am. The 4-mile and 7-mile runs will start at 7:45am.

All participants age 1-12 in the 1 Mile Fun Run will receive a commemorative train whistle when they cross the finish line.

Awards go to the top three Male and Female Overall and top three Male and Female in the following age groups:  9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and older.
