BATAVIA – An evening celebrating Water Street Studios’ ninth anniversary will feature a silent art auction, beer and whiskey tastings by Solemn Oath Brewery and Whiskey Acres Distilling, open artist studios, new exhibitions and art activities from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 14.
Appetizers are by Gaetano’s in Batavia, and a cash bar with beer, wine and cocktail options will be offered, according to a news release. The event, sponsored by K.Hollis Jewelers, is for all ages and the suggested donation for admission is $5.
The Dempsey Family Gallery will display work by the artist member community. The upstairs gallery will show “Road Trip: Passage Through Collective Memory” by Christopher Cudworth. The exhibitions will be up until Oct. 7.
“Now more than ever, it is crucial that we work with our community to use the arts as a vehicle to celebrate diversity, teach innovative curriculum, support under-resourced individuals, and create a sense of place for artists and community members alike,” WSS Executive Director Danielle Hollis stated in the release. “We encourage you to consider the impact you can make for yourself and those around you by supporting Water Street Studios during our ninth anniversary celebration.”
The day’s silent art auction will run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 14. A wide range of artwork donated by artists affiliated with Water Street Studios will be auctioned. One can bid on paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, glasswork, assemblage and other mediums by phone via the mobile auction platform at 32auctions.com. The fundraising goal is $5,000 to support arts programming in the Fox Valley and beyond.
Artwork will be available to view online starting Sept. 12. During the anniversary reception, the auctioned work will be on display in the loading dock space adjoining Water Street Studios. Winning bidders can take home their new original artwork at 8 p.m.
Regular gallery hours are 2 to 6 p.m. Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
