Your library card: The most incredible card in your wallet

September is library card sign-up month

Your Batavia Public Library card can do incredible things!

You already know that your library card gives you free access to books, video games, DVDs, and CDs. But did you know that you can also borrow free passes to local museums, take an art class, or be entertained by a magician or a professional singer?

And you don’t even need to step inside our doors to take advantage of the wonderful things that your card can do for you. With your library card, you can download audio and e-books, movies, TV shows, and music, from anywhere and all for free.

If you have a report or a project to complete, you can use our reference databases, Wi-Fi, computers, printers, or scanner. More important, you can ask questions of the experts – our librarians. And if you need technology or genealogy help, they are happy to schedule a one-on-one session with you.

If you like to read, it’s true that we do have a lot of books and other materials. And since we joined the SWAN network this spring, you now have access to the materials on the shelves of 97 other libraries.

If you need a reading recommendation, our librarians are voracious readers who can easily suggest your next favorite read. They will even customize a list of reading suggestions just for you. And we reward you for doing what you love when you join our Winter or Summer Reading Clubs.

The library can be a great place for social interaction. You can meet with like-minded readers at book discussions and book talks. In our Youth Services Department, we see parents and caregivers sharing advice and meeting new friends while their children enjoy storytime or another program.

You’re also invited to our Library Card Month celebration.

Everyone is invited when we kick off Library Card Sign-Up Month on Sept. 9 with an old-fashioned ice cream social.

We’ll have a storyteller who will keep you hanging on her every word, plus there will be crafts, photo-ops, and games. There also will be special prize raffles at the library that Sunday if you show us your Batavia Public Library card. If you don’t have a card, this will be the perfect opportunity to sign up and get into the raffle.

Do something incredible, get your library card today.

A Batavia Public Library card is free of charge to library district residents and is issued for a three-year period. Adults may register for a library card for themselves and their children under the age of 18.

To obtain a Batavia Public Library card, bring proof of identity and proof of residency within the Batavia Public Library district. If you have questions, check out our website at BataviaPublicLibrary.org or call the Batavia Public Library Circulation Services department at 630-879-1393.
