Most Valuable Athlete: B.J. Crossen

St. Charles East QB B.J. Crossen rushed for 139 yards and three scores to vault Saints over Glenbard North; Crossen voted on by Chronicle readers as Most Valuable Athlete

Name: B.J. Crossen

Sport: Football

School: St. Charles East, junior

Why he was selected: Crossen enjoyed a huge game against Glenbard North last week, rushing for 139 yards and three touchdowns – including the game-winning score – to lead the Saints to their third consecutive win, 29-26. Crossen was voted Most Valuable Athlete by Kane County Chronicle readers.

Crossen caught up with the Chronicle sports reporter Jacob Bartelson to discuss his hot start to the season and more.

Bartelson: When did you first fall in love with football?

Crossen: I first fell in love with football when I was very young, 3-4 years old.

Bartelson: Much of the attention is placed on the running backs and you, but do you feel your wide receiver corps is underrated? Why?

Crossen: I don't feel that our team thinks the wide receiver corps is underrated. As a team we are confident in [our] ability to air the ball out when we have to.

Bartelson: What have you learned about yourself this season?

Crossen: This season I've learned how important preparation is. You have to eat the right food, watch enough film, take care of your body when you're banged up. You need to be 100 percent going into every Friday night.

Bartelson: Is any recruiting news popping up as of recent?

Crossen: There has been some recruiting interest, but [I'm] really focusing on what's going on in the current season.
