Dueling T-shirts for a cause in Batavia, Geneva

Funds to be raised for food bank, Marklund

GENEVA — Batavia High School and Geneva High School football fans will not only be meeting up Sept. 28 at Batavia High School’s Bulldog Stadium for the 100th crosstown classic game, but they will also be wearing competing T-shirts, according to a news release.

Both high schools will be selling Geneva vs. Batavia “Competing for a Cause” T-shirts from now until game day to benefit Marklund and the Northern Illinois Food Bank.

Each limited-edition T-shirt is $15 with sizes range from youth medium to adult 4XL. All proceeds will be donated to Marklund and Northern Illinois Food Bank.

“Every Batavia vs. Geneva game is one for the history books, but this centennial game is going to be very special,” Batavia High School varsity football coach Dennis Piron stated in the release. “We are thrilled that it’s on our home turf and are excited to once again be partnering with Geneva High School to help local charities through our crosstown classic T-shirt sales. It’s going to be a great game benefiting two great causes.”

“Competing for a cause is another opportunity for our two communities to come together to support two local charities,” Geneva Athletic Director Dave Carli stated in the release. “This is more than athletics; it’s about building life lessons, and paying it back to others.”

Students who have already ordered their Geneva T-shirts can picke them up during lunch periods Sept. 26-28. The public who have already ordered their Geneva T-shirts can pick up their orders at the school from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 27, enter at doors 19E.
