Rogina and Stellato also provided updates on other developments underway throughout the city, such as the 78 single-family homes being built as part of the Anthem Heights subdivision north of Route 64 and west of Randall Road.
In addition, work is almost complete on the 250-unit Prairie Winds upscale apartment complex directly behind the Lowe's and Meijer stores along Randall Road.
"The owners of the development also own XSport Fitness clubs throughout the country, so the clubhouse is built out like you've never seen before," Stellato said. "It has a great workout facility and an indoor/outdoor pool. And it's one of the quickest developments my colleagues on the City Council and I have ever seen designed and built. I think it's going to be done by November, from what I've been told."
Rents at the apartment complex range between $1,800 to $2,300 a month, he said.
The redevelopment of the former St. Charles Mall site on Route 38, east of Randall Road, also is underway.
"Currently, we have about 100 two-bedroom apartments that are being built there," Rogina said. "The total will be about 675 when it's all done, but about 100 are underway already."
In addition, Rogina said Geneva-based Shodeen Construction has received a grant that will allow for the construction of 75 affordable senior housing units as part of the Prairie Centre project. The development, which is expected to take at least five years to build, also will include commercial space.
