Batavia High School will present "Chicago the Musical – High School Edition" from Nov. 8 to 10 at the Batavia Fine Arts Centre.
The original production, directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse, opened in 1975 and was nominated for nine Tony awards, a news release stated. "Chicago" follows the story of two performers convicted of murder as they vie for the spotlight, headlines and acquittal.
Rehearsing since August, the cast features 45 BHS students. Freshmen are Addie Bloom, Lorela Burke, Ally Cooper, Timothy Gustin, Anna Laurich, Claire Dean, Desert McGarr, Emma Myers, Kayla Giesen, Zoe Weeks and Kohl Winkle. Sophomores are Anthony Barranco, Mackenzie Benkers, Vivien Cohen, Cat Hall, Tom Hougen, Ava Little, Izzy Mach, Jillian Mossbarger, Venessa Plourde, Matthew Siekierski, Serafina Tassi, Anika Thoresen and Olivia Tippets.
Juniors are George Aigner, Sophie Chahmirzadi, Bella Clarey, Hannah Curran, Parker Fletcher, Jolie Hedger, Landon Keller, Morgan O'Brien, Maisie Sweeney and Jeremiah Young. Seniors are Demi Anderson, Colin Callahan, Anna Harms, Nathan Knautz, Sarah Maher, Robbie Mansfield, Cate Rocha, Isaac Schifferer, Sydney Tshosik, Maisy Wilson and Lily Zofkie.
Dominic Cattero will direct the show. New technology at BHS will incorporate a moving stage, and students on the production team are working on the intricate set.
The crew members are freshmen Alivia Adamczyk, Daisy McDiarmid and Abbey Sutton. Sophomores are Seth Barter, Grant Cardelli, Sam DeBruycker, Ainsley Gearhart, Anna Hubbard, Jenna Germano and Rudy Mix. Juniors are Allyson Campagna, Angelina Failing, Ethan Glazebrook, Ian Farrar and Jason Jakubaitis. Seniors are Josh Bamrick, Liam Doherty and Kobi Finfrock.
The musical accompaniment will be performed on stage by 16 students: sophomores Grant Hibbeler and Sarah Schroder; juniors JJ Burke, Mia Chahmirzadi, Kamil Lebowa, Katherine Polick, Aidan Perrault, Nathan White and Caroline Weiss; and seniors Mikayla Kennaugh, Joy Mazur, Donovan McIntosh, Macy Meyer, Colin Misura, Jacob Skomer and Alex Stroz, along with Roxanne Semonchik.
