Batavia Lions Club's Underwear Party to support Adopt A Family

Festivities to return to Bar Evolution

BATAVIA – Last fall’s debut Underwear Party, a lighthearted way to support Batavia’s Adopt A Family holiday campaign, proved so popular that the Batavia Lions Club event will return to Bar Evolution from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 15.

“The Batavia Lions Club is partnering with Batavia United Way again this year,” United Way Executive Director Melinda Kintz said in an email. “We are expecting 118 families to be adopted.”

Entry to the party is a package of new underwear or socks or $10. Once again, Bar Evolution at 27 N. River St. in Batavia will provide complimentary appetizers for guests. A table of raffle baskets also is planned.

The event flyer said the club seeks “boxers, briefs, sporty, girly – tops and bottoms” for boys and girls ages 5 to 18.

“For our inaugural event last year, we collected nine [large sacks] of new socks and underwear, as well as collecting over $1,100 in donations,” Batavia Lions Club President Lori Wilson said in an email.

Wilson said that because of the party, in addition to the regular gifts donated for families, United Way was able to give each child some new undergarments and fill in incidentals.

“These extra funds also help purchase things like gift cards and Batavia spirit wear for the teens,” Wilson said.

Coordinated by Batavia United Way, Adopt A Family focuses on children in need who have been pinpointed by Batavia school district counselors who help put together the kids’ personal wish lists. Organizations, businesses and individuals participate in the drive.
