GENEVA – Louise Aughnay, Laura Pinckney and Kelly Vass of State Street Jewelers in Geneva recently returned from a buying trip to Antwerp, Belgium, considered the diamond capital of the world, the company announced in a news release.

“We hand-select each and every diamond that comes in to our store,” Aughnay stated in the release.

The store can access five Antwerp diamond suppliers as a member of the Master Independent Jewelers Organization, an international buying group and educational organization for retail jewelers.

With more than 700 members in the U.S., Canada and Australia, the Independent Jewelers Organization maintains buying offices in Antwerp for its members, the release stated.

"It is generally out of reach for a single jewelry store or small chain to buy direct in Antwerp", Pinckney stated in the release. "One of the benefits of our Independent Jewelers Organization membership is that we become a direct importer of Antwerp diamonds and can save our customers the normal middleman's fee.”
