'Unresponsive' driver charged with DUI in Geneva

Motorist did not move for 4-5 traffic signal cycles

GENEVA – A man who was later charged with driving under the influence was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat while stopped at a stop light, according to police reports.

William E. Stockdale, 21, of the 0-99 block of High Lake Avenue, West Chicago, was charged Jan. 5 with driving under the influence and improper stopping in the roadway, reports stated.

Police were first called to do a welfare check following reports of an unresponsive driver at 10:19 p.m. at East Fabyan Parkway and South Kirk Road, Geneva, reports stated.

Stockdale was in a 2012 white Ford F-250 which was stopped at the traffic signal for four to five cycles without moving, reports stated.

The car was running, all the doors were locked and Stockdale did not respond to police, reports stated.

Police called Batavia medics, but as they were waiting, it appeared that Stockdale’s foot came off the brake, reports stated.

Stockdale proceeded to drive through the intersection, moving slowly at an angle until the truck hit a light post in the southwest corner of the intersection and stopped, reports stated.

Stockdale woke up and was very confused, telling police that he passed out from working all day, reports stated.

According to court records, Stockdale is to appear in court Feb. 6.
