Rogers on Batavia's radar:
Batavia (16-14) doesn't need reminding what the top priority is when defending Lake Park going into their regional opener at Rolling Meadows.
That's Lake Park junior guard Darrione Rogers, a DePaul recruit, who became her program's all-time leading scorer last week.
Rogers lit up Batavia for 45 points – 32 of those coming in the fourth quarter and overtime – of Lake Park's 69-60 win Jan. 19. The Lancers swept the season series, with a two-point win the first game.
Batavia coach Kevin Jensen said Rogers hit "something like 7 of 8 3-point shots" down the stretch in January.
"She had a historic night, just making unreal shot after unreal shot," Jensen said. "We want to try to make her make tough shots and not let her beat us at the free-throw line."
Jensen would love for his team to string together two wins this week, which likely would require an upset of Rolling Meadows on its home floor, to get back to the sectional next week at Batavia. The Bulldogs are at full strength now with Geddy Rerko and Hailey Orman back, which helps.
"That is our mantra, is we want to play at home," Jensen said. "These seniors have been a great group. This time of year, you're playing for more time together, to earn another practice and another game."
