Who doesn’t like free groceries?

We're giving someone local a $500 gift card to Blue Goose Market

Those who know me are aware that I am a locavore – a connoisseur of all things local, hometown, and nearby – food, drink, music, art, you name it. To that end, I wanted to take a minute to tell our readers about a new subscriber benefit from the Kane County Chronicle.

Rolling out this week and starting officially on April 4, we are offering a new program connecting local residents with local businesses. TapOnIt lets Kane County Chronicle subscribers use their smartphones to access deals and offers from businesses in our own communities.

So yeah – it’s advertising – but this is grass roots stuff, designed to keep money right here in our own hometowns, helping out the businesses that make this such a great place to live.

All the time, I hear people say they “didn’t even know” about a local business, a special dining night or a neighborhood event. TapOnIt will connect us to just those types of things, so we won’t miss out.

So what is it, really?

It’s a free and easy program that texts us offers, tied to our zip codes. That’s so all the great deals and information keep coming from our own neighborhoods. And once it launches in April, local offers will come to our phones no more than a few times a week. Even better, the deals can be shared with friends, getting everybody out on the town.

And if you sign up now, before we “officially” launch, you might just win $500 in free groceries from our friends at Blue Goose Market. Someone from the neighborhood is going to win…so why not you?

Supporting our local business community is something I feel strongly about, and keeping our storefronts filled helps preserve the vibrant, prosperous cities we all call home.

So I hope you’ll give TapOnIt a try, and discover everything the local business community has to offer. And if it’s not your cup of tea, you can “tap out” with just a text.

Look for more information online and in print, or even through your email, if we’re connected with you that way. And if you’re ready to sign up for great deals right now, just text TapOnIt to the number 82928. You’ll get a reply asking for your zip code, and then you’re ready to grab those local deals, and the chance to win.

That’s my pitch…thanks for reading.
