Gun owner turns over 7 weapons to be destroyed

Kane resident gives up 5 revolvers, 2 rifles

ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP – A resident of Kane County turned in seven firearms to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office on March 12 and asked for them to be destroyed, reports stated.

The resident had no criminal history, had an active Illinois State Police Firearm Owners Identification card and deputies verified that he could legally possess firearms and a FOID card, reports stated.

Firearms provided for destruction were a Colt D.A. 1917 .45 revolver; two Rugers, an SR22P .22 caliber with two magazines and a SR9C 9mm with one magazine; a Sig Sauer P320 9mm with holster; Windham Weaponry WW15 .223 caliber rifle; and a Henry Repeating Arms Golden Boy .22 caliber HL04M rifle with magazine, reports stated.

All firearms and serial numbers were checked to see if any were stolen or in need of being recovered by other agencies, but all came back clear, reports stated.

All firearms were transported to a secure location in the evidence division and will be destroyed, reports stated.

Deputies also traced the firearms with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to make sure all are accounted for and cleared of crimes or criminal entities, reports stated.

The resident also relinquished his Illinois FOID card as well and asked that the card be canceled, reports stated.

Police reports did not include a reason why the gun owner wanted the guns to be destroyed and the FOID card canceled.
