Waubonsee Community College offers therapeutic horse riding instructor program

Classes begin in the fall of 2019

SUGAR GROVE – Waubonsee Community College will be offering a program that prepares students to become therapeutic horse riding instructor.

Beginning in the fall of 2019, students can take classes to prepare for the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH) certification as a Therapeutic Riding Instructor.

According to a news release from Waubonsee, a certified instructor is qualified to conduct a safe, basic lesson that includes teaching a riding skill to children and adults with emotional, social, behavioral, mental and physical disabilities. Equine-assisted activities are used for the purpose of contributing positively to the well-being of people with special needs.

Information sessions about this program will be held on May 21 from 8:30 until 10:30 a.m. and on June 11 from 6 until 8 p.m. Both of these sessions will be held on at Waubonsee’s Plano Campus at 100 Waubonsee Drive in Plano in Room 209.

Visit www.waubonsee.edu/riding to register for an information session or email smason1@waubonsee.edu or call (815) 690-8144 to get more information about this program.
