Kristi Purnell was among several teachers honored at Kane County Regional Office of Education awards ceremony
ELBURN – Kristi Purnell does not say goodbye to her students.
Once she’s had them in her classroom, she has them in her heart forever.
The longtime teacher at John Stewart Elementary School in Elburn was recently named Elementary School Teacher of the Year during the Marvel/Avengers-themed Kane County Regional Office of Education’s 44th Annual Awards Ceremony, proving she truly is superhero-like.
“There’s no such thing as a goodbye,” she said. “I always remember the kiddos. I’ll see them at Jewel and Elburn Days. And the best part, if you think about it, is that a school year seems like a long time, but it’s really only 178 days. It may sound corny, but I’m blessed to be a part of every child’s learning for those 178 days.”
