BATAVIA – Six area high school students who are employed at The Holmstad were recently awarded college scholarships.
All six students, who are all employed in dining services, received $1,800 for their higher education expenses. The scholarships were awarded at the annual awards dinner at the community. Money for the scholarships comes from proceeds of the annual bazaar and also from Paul Bergeson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Bergeson was a resident at The Holmstad and was a teacher, coach and athletic director at St. Charles High School.
This year’s recipients from Batavia High School include: Anna Fox and Laura Fox, who will both attend North Central College in Naperville; Page Lundborg, who will attend Augustana College in Rock Island, Adrian Osborne, who will attend Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash.; Meghan Thayer, who will attend Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis; and Christina Schulenburg, from Aurora Christian High School, will attend Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.
According to a news release, this is the 28th year The Holmstad Resident Association has given annual awards to qualified students. To qualify, a student must have been employed by October 31 of the previous year and submit a transcript of grades, an autobiography, as well as recommendations from two teachers, an academic counselor and work supervisor.
