Oberweis opens St. Charles congressional campaign office

Dairyman hopes to unseat Underwood in 2020

State Sen. Jim Oberweis, R-Sugar Grove, will host a grand opening of his 14th Congressional campaign office from 3 to 5:30 p.m. June 15 at 1700 Route 38, St. Charles.

Oberweis has declared his intention to win the GOP primary to run against U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood, D-Naperville, in 2020. Underwood defeated Republican incumbent Randy Hultgren in November 2018.

The grand opening will feature food off the grill, refreshments and birthday cake, as Oberweis will be celebrating his birthday as well.

Also seeking the GOP nomination to run against Underwood are James Marter, R-Oswego; Anthony Catella of St. Charles; and Danny Malouf of Crystal Lake.

Oberweis won a second term in the Illinois Senate
in 2016. He won in 2011 for Chris Lauzen’s former district when Lauzen ran for Kane County Board chairman.

Oberweis previously lost in campaigns for governor and the U.S. Senate, and lost to Democrat Bill Foster in 2008 in an earlier 14th Congressional District race.
