ST. CHARLES – A medical patient who entered the Walmart store on Smith Road this morning wearing a mask caused the evacuation of the store as well as police to respond.

At 10:09 a.m., St. Charles Police responded to a call of a masked subject at the store at 150 Smith Road. It was reported that a man entered the store wearing a mask concealing his face, according to a news release from the St. Charles Police Department.

Walmart management took precautionary measures and evacuated the store, the release stated. St. Charles police, assisted by Geneva and West Chicago police, cleared the Walmart building and the subject was located.

Police determined the man was wearing a medical device due to recent medical treatment, the release stated. There was no criminal activity involved in the incident, police said.

The incident comes almost a week after 22 people were killed in a shooting rampage at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas.
