ELBURN – The 2019 Railside 4/7 race will be held during Elburn Days on Aug. 17 at John Stewart Elementary School, 817 Prairie Valley St., Elburn. The 3rd annual race features 1-mile fun run/walk, a 4-mile run and a 7-mile run. The 4- and 7-miles race courses cross the Union Pacific West rail line via the Anderson Road Bridge. Due to the construction at Elburn Station, the 7-mile course will be modified.
According to a news release, the Railside 4/7 was started by a group of runners and athletes who wanted to have a premium destination race in Elburn. The group also formed the Railside Charities nonprofit organization to put on other events and give back to the community. The Railside 4/7 is the group's biggest fundraiser.
Proceeds will benefit local charities such as the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance burn camp and the Kaneland Cross Country team. The Railside 4/7 is now part of the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Road to Recovery running series, and has been added again to the 2019 Fox River Trail Runners circuit.
Registration is available at https://raceroster.com/events/2019/20784/railside-47 and more information can be found at railside47.com.
New in 2019, a mile race within the 4 and 7 mile race will allow participants in both races to race each other the first mile. Awards will be given out to the top female and male for that mile. The mile will be called the Eddington mile named after the late Kaneland coach.
