WHEATON – Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Wheaton will present a benefit concert for its “Built for More” campaign featuring internationally acclaimed violinist Rachel Barton Pine at 7:15 p.m. Sept. 7 at Wheaton College’s Pierce Memorial Chapel.
“We are ecstatic to have someone of Rachel’s talent and renown donating her time and energy to benefit our church community,” the Rev. Amy Aimonette of Holy Cross stated in a news release. “It is truly an honor.”
At 5:30 p.m., Barton Pine will speak in depth about her life and craft. Hors d’oeuvres will be served. Tickets for the meet-and-greet event must be purchased in advance.
The concert will include works by J.S. Bach and Pablo de Sarasate with a few surprises.
She also will perform with young student performers in Bach’s “Concerto for Two Violins in d minor” (first movement).
Pine will be joined on stage by Holy Cross Lutheran Church members Daniel Neidlinger on piano and Julie Maura Bickel on violin.
The chart-topping violinist and gold medalist in the J.S. Bach International Competition performs with the world’s leading orchestras. Her RBP Foundation assists young artists and runs the groundbreaking Music by Black Composers project. She performs on the 1742 “ex-Bazzini, ex-Solda” Guarneri del Gesu on lifetime loan from her anonymous patron.
