Two new 5K runs set in Geneva to benefit nonprofit organizations

Runs support research of chronic childhood ailments

GENEVA – Aldermen recommended approval for two special event 5K runs in Geneva at a Committee of the Whole meeting Sept. 3.

The special even applications were for Monster Mash 5K and Kids Dash on Oct. 19 and Ooh La-La Chocolate 5K Run/Walk and Half Marathon on Nov. 3.

Mary Agnes Zellmer filed the applications for both runs on behalf of the Zellmer Childhood Disease Foundation and Zellmer Wellness Foundation.

The Monster Mash 5K and Kids Dash is intended to benefit developmentally disabled runners. The event was formerly known as the Trick or Trot, officials said.

The event takes place in front of the west side cemetery through Wheeler Park and into the adjacent neighborhood.

The Ooh La-La run begins and ends at the Kane County Courthouse, 100 S. Third St.

According to its website, zcdf.org, the charity raises money for research and educational grants for chronic childhood diseases.

The City Council will take final action to approve the applications.
