Police have arrested a 55-year-old Carpentersville man who they said shared pornographic images of children.

Edward J. Mrowiec Jr. is charged in Kane County court with disseminating child pornography and possession of child pornography. Dissemination of child pornography typically carries a penalty of six to 30 years in prison.

Mrowiec, of the 900 block of Chippewa Circle, is accused of possessing four pornographic photos of a child who was younger than 13 years old. Mrowiec sent two of the photos to another person, according to a news release the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office sent Thursday afternoon.

Elgin police discovered the images Wednesday after an officer who was patrolling the area of Elgin’s Wing Park saw a car in the parking lot after the park was closed.

The driver, Mrowiec, was with a juvenile passenger, according to the release. Both Mrowiec and the child were brought to the police department, where officers discovered the pornographic images on the man’s cellphone, according to the release.

Mrowiec appeared Wednesday in Kane County bond court, where Judge Julia A. Yetter set his bond at $100,000. Mrowiec would need to post $10,000 bail to be released.

If Mrowiec were to post bail, he would be barred from having contact with anyone younger than 18 years old, according to the release.

He’s due back in Kane County court Wednesday.
