Police investigate house fire in St. Charles late Friday

ST. CHARLES – The St. Charles Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire in the basement of the home at 269 Tower Dr. late Friday night.

According to a news release, a 10:14 p.m. the fire department was dispatched to the home after a report of smoke in the house. They found heavy smoke when they arrived, and located the fire in the basement. Two residents of the home, who were sleeping when the fire started, were able to escape on their own with their dogs.

The firefighters extinguished the fire and continue to investigate the cause, which is not considered suspicious. Fire loss is estimated to be $10,000 to the home and its contents. Fire departments from Geneva, Batavia, Elburn and South Elgin assisted.
