Celebrate Autumn in all of it's "boo-tiful" glory

The Geneva Park District's Howl-O-Ween Dog Parade is Oct. 26.
The Geneva Park District's Howl-O-Ween Dog Parade is Oct. 26.

At the Geneva Chamber we have been in “holiday mode” for a while now and I am excited to share specifics about the Christmas Walk and Holiday House Tour...in November’s column.

For now, I can reveal that the homes for the House Tour range from an over 100-year-old home and barn combo to a custom home just about 10 years old. The dates are Dec. 6-7 and tickets are $35. Tickets are available for pre-order now at genevachamber.com or 630-232-6060 and will be available for online ordering Oct. 15.

Every October, certain lyrics stick in my head. You might think it would be “Ghostbusters” or “Monster Mash,” but, and I am a bit embarrassed to admit, it is actually a child’s song by that popular purple dinosaur, Barney. To me, it describes this season perfectly and just makes me happy.

"I like to roll in the leaves, Feel the cool breeze, Stuff a scarecrow top to bottom.

And you can call it 'Fall' If that’s what you please, But I say 'I like Autumn!'"

So this month, let’s celebrate autumn – fall flavors and colors, sweater weather, ghosts, goblins and of course, Halloween.

Our SPOOKtacular partners offer events all month long. The Geneva History Museum has Cemetery Walks on Oct. 12 and their popular Ghost Walks on Oct. 26. Brave souls can register at genevahistory.org.

October is a perfect time to attend a presentation on graves and headstones. The Geneva Public Library is having a speaker that has explored hundreds across the state speak on Oct. 17. Specifics at gpld.org.

The Geneva Park District has the right combination of fun and fear, like Escape the Mansion on Oct. 19. Get your team together as Stephen Persinger Recreation Center is transformed into a mansion rumored to be haunted. A little less spooky is the Halloween Hayday on Oct. 26 followed by the Howl 'o Ween Dog Parade. Visit genevaparks.org.

On Oct. 24, Geneva shops bearing a Trick-or-Treat flyer in their window welcome little ones in, 2 to 5 p.m. for some treats and maybe a few tricks as well. Don’t forget to stop by the Chamber office at 8 S. Third St. Not only will we have goodies to offer, but it is also the place to pick up a Geneva Shopping & Dining guide or purchase Geneva gift certificates any time of the year.

Have a happy, safe and BOOtiful October!
