Update: St. Charles North player in pediatric ICU

Coach asks for thoughts and well-wishes, district says they are monitoring situation

ST. CHARLES – A St. Charles North football player has been stablized in the pediatric intensive care unit at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, a nurse at the hospital confirmed.

Sophmore Aidan Carlson suffered a serious injury on Friday night at St. Charles East High School. It apparently occurred during the game between sophomore squads of St. Charles East and St. Charles North on Friday. Carlson wore No. 19 and is a linebacker and running back for the North Stars.

North's varsity football coach Robert Pomazak wrote about Carlson on Twitter on Sunday.

"We can all take a moment to send our thoughts well wishes and prayers to our guy [Aidan]," Pomazak wrote. "The power of positive thoughts can make a difference . We are thinking of him, we love him and we are there for the family during this time."

Carol Smith, director of communications and community relations for District 303, said in an email that the district is continuing to monitor the situation.

"A student was injured at Friday night’s football game and we continue to monitor the situation," Smith wrote on Monday. "The District 303 community is sending our thoughts and best wishes to our student and his family during this time."

St. Charles North High School Athletic Director Dan Dolney said the athletic department is also monitoring Carlson's condition.

"We are sending our thoughts and best wishes to him and his family.  We have supports in place for students and staff members who need it," Dolney wrote in an email Monday afternoon.
