Happy Thanksgiving, Batavia! November is the time to be thankful for those who enrich our lives. Our library staff feels very lucky to work with such wonderful patrons who support and use the services of the Batavia Public Library.
When we open the lobby doors in the morning and find a nice crowd of people waiting to come in, it warms our hearts. We love when you tell us about your new favorite book or author. We live for those tough reference questions that you bring us. And it makes our day to hear about your successes with your genealogy research. Of course, our mood is always lifted by the excitement and energy that our youngest patrons bring when they visit our Youth Services Department.
This November, our heartfelt gratitude goes to the Friends of the Library for their continuous and generous support. The Friends work year-round to raise funds that are used in support of the library by funding patron programs, buying new materials for check out, and purchasing library furniture and office equipment. On Sat. Dec. 14, be sure to shop both the once a year Vintage Book Sale and the monthly Used Book Sale.
Join in the fun happening at the library this December by attending one or more of the fun holiday events at the Library. Batavia’s Celebration of Lights will kick off the holiday season from 5-7 p.m. at the Batavia Riverwalk this Sun. Dec. 1. Families are invited to stop by the Batavia Depot Museum between 6:15 and 7 p.m. to hear holiday stories read by well-known Batavians. The festival also includes fun kid’s crafts, a community sing-along with the Batavia Community Band, the ceremonial tree lighting and a visit with Santa.
At 2 p.m. on Dec. 15, families will have fun experiencing improvisation at the library when the actors of Storytown Improv present Holiday Antics. The actors will use the audience’s suggestions and ideas to create and act out stories. Your kids will design the setting and help shape the story, and the actors and musicians will bring it to life.
We wish your family a Happy Thanksgiving holiday! For more information about our programs, please visit our website at www.BataviaPublicLibrary.org.
