LaCure to run against Pratte for Geneva Township assessor

GENEVA – Township Trustee Denise LaCure has announced that she will run against Assessor Aubrey Pratte in April 2009.

LaCure’s decision to enter the race was based partly on area residents’ dissatisfaction with the responsiveness of the current assessor’s office.

“While the assessor does not set your taxes, the office has an obligation to make itself available to the public as an advocate and not an adversary,” LaCure said. “Taxpayers have a right to the information and assistance available through the assessor’s office, and that has not been forthcoming in the past.”

Pratte dismissed LaCure’s accusation as “political posturing.”

“I’m sorry Ms. LaCure chose to start a campaign off in this manner,” Pratte said. “Since taking office, I’ve established a Web site that answers every question a taxpayer could want.

“Saying my office is ‘not responsive’ is a figment of somebody’s imagination.”
