St. Charles Parks: Lacrosse camps coming up

All Star Boys and Girls Lacrosse Camps

This class is designed to teach participants the game of lacrosse in a fun and safe environment. Many mechanical skills will be taught while also covering game time situations and strategies. Our goals are to educate our students of the sport while emphasizing teamwork, sportsmanship and making sure everyone has a positive experience. Camp for ages 7 to 10 will be held Monday, June 16 through Friday, June 20 at the East Side Sports Complex on Kirk Road. Boys meet from noon to 2 p.m. and Girls meet from 2:15 to 4:15 p.m. Fee is $85 for residents and $127.50 for non-residents.

Challenger Soccer Camp

Learn techniques, tactics, physiological and psychological aspects of the game. Please bring your own soccer ball and wear shin guards. Camp for ages 6 to 8 will be held Monday, June 16 through Friday, June 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the East Side Sports Complex on Kirk Road. Fee is $95 for residents and $142.50 for non-residents.

Sports R US Boys Basketball Camp

This camp will focus on developing the fundamental skills with a heavy emphasis on games. In addition to working on passing, dribbling, defense, rebounding and shooting skills, each boy will compete in the skill competition. Please bring a water bottle to class. Camp for ages 8 to 10 will meet on Mondays from June 16 through July 21 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Avenue. Fee is $54 for residents and $81 for non-residents.

Sports R Us Girls Sports Camp

This is a class that brings a little bit of every sport to every girl in class. Girls will have the chance to learn and play numerous sports, including, basketball, soccer, softball, as well as other fun games too. This is a great opportunity for your daughter to meet a nd play with girls her own age and build friendships. Please bring a water bottle to class. Camp for ages 7 to 9 will meet on Tuesdays from June 17 through July 22 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Avenue. Fee is $54 for residents and $81 for non-residents.

Sports R Us Junior Basketball for Girls Camp

Girls, get ready to learn all about basketball with your friends or meet new friends. Through a variety of drills we will work on dribbling, passing, shooting, defense and much more. Participants will put their acquired skills to the test at the end of each class in a fun game. Teamwork and sportsmanship are stressed. Please bring a water bottle to class. Camp for ages 8 to 10 will meet on Wednesdays from June 18 through July 23 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Avenue. Pirates of the Sea

Calling all Pirates! Come search for a hidden treasure, create a pirate mask, listen to pirate stories and much, much more. We will have swashbuckling fun! Class for ages 3 to 5 meets on Wednesday, June 18 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Avenue. Fee is $12.50 for residents and $19 for non-residents.

4th of July Craft Class

Let’s celebrate America! We will make our own decorations to celebrate this festive holiday. Kids will also create their own 4th of July snack to enjoy during class. Class for ages 3 to 5 meets on Saturday, June 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Avenue. Fee is $18.50 for residents and $28 for non-residents.

Safe Kids at Home and Away

Children learn about ‘safe thoughts’ and how to use them in different situations. Simple rules and procedures will help children be ‘Safe Kids’ at home and away. Subjects include: important phone numbers, answering the phone, how to use the phone in an emergency (calling 911), walking home from school/bus, checking the house before entering, answering the door, what to do in case of fire, fun things to do when alone, how to deal with strangers, poison control/drug safety and more. For ages 4 to 6, class meets on Saturday, June 21 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Avenue.  Fee is $15.50 for residents and $23.50 for non-residents.

Mixin’ in the Kitchen: Appetizers and Tidbits

Calling all junior ‘foodies’! This hands-on class features all new recipes, perfect for budding chefs. In safe, clean conditions we’ll chop, dice, stir and create delicious dishes to enjoy and share with our families. Class for ages 5 to 10 meets on Tuesday, June 17 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Avenue. Fee is $22.50 for residents and $34 for non-residents.

Cloud Watching

Sky’s the limit on the fun we’ll have enjoying the clouds! We will learn about cloud formations, try to identify them in the sky and even create a cloud in a jar. We’ll make a cloud craft, play cloud games and eat a heavenly snack. Then we will complete the day by lying on our backs and just watching the clouds go by. For ages 6 to 12, class meets on Wednesday, June 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Campton Hills Park at Peck and Campton Hills Roads. Fee is $5 for residents and $7.50 for non-residents.

Nature Photography

Enjoy the splendor of the great outdoors and bring it all back on film (and disk)! Through games and activities we will discover how to capture the beauty of nature with a camera, creating works of art with the click of a button. Bring your artistic eye and a sense of adventure; we’ll supply the cameras! Class for ages 8 to 12 meets on Thursday, June 19 from1 to 3 p.m. at Delnor Woods Park, at Route 25 and Fulton Avenue. Fee is $12 for residents and $18 for non-residents.

Hiking at Starved Rock State Park

Experience the beautiful trails and canyons of Starved Rock State Park. Our day excursion will consist of hiking 5 miles of trails while learning i nformation about the natural environment from our guided naturalist. At the end of our day we will have dinner (on your own) at the Lodge. Please bring a sack lunch, water and appropriate clothing. All levels of hikers ages 18+ welcome. Registration deadline is June 13.  Class is Saturday, June 21 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Meet at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Avenue. Fee is $22 for residents and $33 for non-residents.

Backpacking & Touring Yellowstone

After car-caravanning west to Yellowstone National Park, our trip will focus on a small section of this beautiful and historic park. Sites we’ll see will include: Old Faithful, Lone Star and many other geysers as well as sulfur springs, bubbling mud, thundering falls, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Black Canyon and, of course, the bison. We will backpack into different areas, set up base camp and be explorers. Beginners and families are welcome. Fee includes camp meals for June 23-27, KOA camping, park fees, group equipment, water filters and food outfitting. Not included are: travel meals, snacks, transportation, or any touring or souvenirs.  For ages 9+, trip runs from 5 a.m. on Saturday, June 21 through 8 p.m. Sunday.  Fee is $375 for residents and $425 for non-residents.

Red Hat Foxes: Arlington Park Race Track

Join us for a day of racing at Arlington. Enjoy lunch on your own at the food court or one of the restaurants. Races are from 15pm. Trip includes transportation, general admission outside or on the first floor and a racing guide. Registration Deadline is June 12. For ages 50+, meet on Thursday, June 19 at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Avenue, for a 10:30 a.m. departure, returning at 6:30 p.m.  Fee is $14.

History Roundtable

Join life-long and long-time residents in a lively discussion of times in St. Charles and the Fox Valley as they discuss a special, local topic. This is a co-sponsored program of the St. Charles Heritage Center. Refreshments will be served. The class is conducted by the St. Charles History Museum. Please call them at (630) 584-6967 for further information or questions.  For ages 18+, class meets on Wednesday, June 18 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Avenue.  Class is free for residents and is $2 for non-residents.

Checkmate Chess Camp

Learn how to win at chess! No previous knowledge of chess is necessary. Both new and returning participants are welcome and will get to the next level under the guidance of an experienced Chess Scholars coach. Each class will consist of a fun interactive teaching period and guided practice time. Each camper will take home a chess set and an award. Please bring your own snacks. Camp for ages 6 to 13 meets from Monday, June 16 through Friday, June 20 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Avenue. Fee is $105 for residents and $155 for non-residents.

Babysitters Training

Future babysitters will learn the skills needed to have a successful and fulfilling time taking care of children. Fun activities, group and teacher-led discussions and role playing allow students to participate in every aspect of the class. Student reference book and other materials are included in fee. At the completion of the two-day class each student will receive a 3 year American Red Cross First Aid certification card. Bring a doll and lunch to class. For ages 10 to 16, class meets on Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22 from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Avenue. Fee is $40 for residents and $60 for non-residents.
