THURSDAY Cougars start playoffs against Burlington The Kane County Cougars will host the Burlington Bees on Tuesday at Elfstrom Stadium in Game 2 of the first round of the Midwest League playoffs. The first game of the best-of-three series will be Wednesday at Burlington. The series will be completed in Geneva. Game 2 begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. FRIDAY Run of the Mill helps fifth-grader battle epilepsy Mill Creek Elementary School in Geneva will host the 11th annual Run of the Mill on Friday to benefit Matthew Morrison and his family. Matthew is a fifth-grade Mill Creek student battling epilepsy and facing brain surgery this fall. The event will include a one-mile youth run at 5:45 p.m. for students in fifth grade and younger, and a 5K run and two-mile walk at 6:30 p.m. The races will begin and end at Mill Creek Elementary School, 0N900 Brundige Drive. The movie tells the story of a hitman (Cage) who’s in Bangkok to pull off a series of jobs, falls for a local woman, and bonds with his errand boy. “Bangkok Dangerous” is rated R for violence, language and some sexuality. Cubs on the road for most of Sept. The NL Central-leading Chicago Cubs will finish a series with Houston on Wednesday, have a day off on Thursday, and then begin a nine-game road trip to Cincinnati, St. Louis and Houston. The Cubs will play 16 of 25 games on the road in September and will have to play well if they want to hold off the Milwaukee Brewers. Church plans rummage sale Fox Valley Presbyterian Church, 227 Eastside Drive in Geneva, will host a rummage and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. The sale will benefit Living Waters for the World, an organization that provides and installs water purification systems in areas in need of drinkable water. SUNDAY Bears open season at Indianapolis The Colts are opening their new retractable-roof venue, Lucas Oil Stadium, by hosting the Bears in a prime-time game on Sunday. The Bears’ offense and quarterback Kyle Orton put in a good showing in the all-important third preseason game, but the defense now is suspect. The Bears will have to put a complete game together to have any chance against Peyton Manning and the Colts. The game begins at 7:15 p.m. Sunday and will be televised on NBC.
