Fox Valley Park District creates leafier environmentWhile you enjoy the colorful show nature is putting on for us this fall, remember this fact – two mature trees provide enough oxygen for a family of four. Trees provide numerous benefits. And as Fox Valley Park District residents are out enjoying the great outdoors, they might notice their parks are becoming leafier. The Fox Valley Park District last spring launched its “Plant 1,000 Trees” initiative throughout its 150 parks. The park district this fall has continued to plant trees. “Fall is the best time of year to plant,” said Jennifer Vittori, supervisor of arboriculture, trails and natural areas. “These next several weeks will be a busy time for us.” Bill Donnell, director of the district’s Park Operations and Natural Resources, said the district is particularly focused on planting trees around its lakes and waterways as a “buffer zone.” Trees in these areas improve water quality and fish habitat by providing a cooling effect for lakes and streams, while helping to stabilize shorelines and prevent erosion. “We’re making a green program greener,” Donnell said. *** Looking for ways to protect your identity online?
