Fire damages St. Charles homeBy Kane County ChronicleST. CHARLES – Fire-fighters are continuing to investigate the cause of a house fire on the city’s east side. At about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, St. Charles firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from the second floor windows of a home at 612 Marion Avenue, located just east of Route 25, near Stonehenge Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire in a bedroom on the second floor of the house. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within about 30 minutes, but remained on the scene to conduct other operations related to the fire and to begin their investigation. Firefighters said it appeared the people living in the house were out of town. The fire had been reported to authorities by passers-by. There were no injuries and loss is estimated at $50,000, the St. Charles Fire Department said. The home is not considered habitable as a result of the damage, officials said. The St. Charles department was assisted by firefighters from the Geneva and Batavia departments, while units from the Elburn Fire Department manned the St. Charles station during the operation. |
