Pancake breakfast to benefit HabitatBy the KANE COUNTY CHRONICLEAURORA – A pancake breakfast to benefit Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity of Aurora will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at 905 N. Edgelawn Drive. The menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee, milk, and orange juice. Tickets are $7 each. Children under age 10 are free. The annual Habitat fundraiser is sponsored by the church’s social action committee. Members prepare and serve the breakfast, which is open to the public. “Our church annually contributes at least $1,000 to support the housing ministry of Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity,” said Beth Conover, breakfast coordinator. “This breakfast helps raise the money to do that.” Fox Valley Habitat is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International Inc., a nonprofit housing ministry that partners with low-income families who need basic housing. Fox Valley Habitat volunteers are currently constructing a home each in Aurora and Montgomery in partnership with deserving families. Since its founding, the Aurora Habitat affiliate has attracted 1,000 volunteers and completed houses in Aurora and Montgomery that shelter about 200 people. Habitat sells houses to qualified families at no profit. Partnering families contribute up to 500 hours of sweat equity and repay a zero-interest mortgage. Loan payments are used to build more houses. Donations of materials, land, funds, and volunteer services are needed to continue the Aurora ministry.
