Autopsy results show motorcyclist died of blunt head trauma

CAMPTON HILLS – Preliminary autopsy results revealed that a St. Charles man killed in a motorcycle crash Friday night died of blunt head trauma.

Michael Smith, 40, of St. Charles, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, Kane County Coroner Chuck West said.

Illinois does not have a helmet law. West did not have any other comments about the accident.

The coroner’s office on Monday conducted an autopsy. Toxicology samples have been sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis.

After the accident, Smith was transported to Delnor Hospital  in Geneva, where he was pronounced dead at 9:07 p.m. Friday.

Campton Hills police continue to investigate the crash.

According to Michael Smith’s obituary, he “passed away doing what he loved, riding his motorcycle with his friends.”

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles.
