Batavia youngster, two adults OK after lightning struck their campgroundA child and two adults from Cub Scout Pack 112 of Batavia are faring well after lighting struck their campground in Wisconsin late Thursday. "They were not hit directly," said Matt Ackerman, president of the Boy Scout of America's Three Fires Council in St. Charles. "It was a ground shock. They felt some numbness. I am not aware of any permanent injuries." At about 11 p.m., lightning struck their campground at Camp Freeland Leslie in Oxford, Wis. The three were then taken to Divine Savior of Mercy Hospital in Portage, Wis. for observation. "The storm kind of popped up with some lightning in it," Ackerman said. They were among 300 people at the camp as part of a trip run by the Three Fires Council. After the incident, the other campers were taken to emergency shelters. "We have established guidelines to deal with inclement weather," Ackerman said. The camping trip is set to end Saturday morning. |
