ST. CHARLES – Cameron Godee had a hug and smile for everyone he met.
“The kid was a hugger and smiler,” said his mother, Mary Lynn Godee. “He hugged everyone.”
Cameron Godee, 17, of West Chicago, was killed in an early morning crash on June 14. Godee recently graduated from St. Charles East High School and was a passenger in a 2005 Ford Explorer being driven by Onofrio Lorusso, 18, of Wayne, who is charged with four counts of reckless homicide and 12 counts of aggravated DUI.
At the time of the crash, prosecutors said, Lorusso’s blood alcohol level was 0.227 – more than twice the state’s 0.08 legal limit – and he had marijuana in his system.
Lorusso also just graduated from St. Charles East High School.
A memorial service for Godee will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Onesti Dinner Club, 18 North 4th St., St. Charles.
He had worked as a bus boy at the Onesti Dinner Club.
“It will be a time to remember all the beautiful things about Cameron,” Godee said. “In our eyes, he was the perfect son. He was everything to us.”
Godee was a member of the St. Charles High School Rugby Team. His season came to an abrupt halt after he broke his leg in April in a league match against Plainfield.
He had a rugby scholarship to attend Arkansas State University.
