CAMPTON HILLS – A man police sought in connection with a fatal motorcycle accident has surrendered, officials said.

David B. Bledsoe, 41, of the 34W800 block of Skyline Drive, St. Charles, turned himself in to the Kane County Sheriff on Wednesday afternoon. According to county records, Bledsoe’s bail was set at $100,000 and he was released after posting $10,000 bond.

An arrest warrant had been issued Tuesday for Bledsoe in connection with leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Campton Hills police made a public appeal for information about Bledsoe’s whereabouts.

According to police, Michael S. Smith was apparently the cause of the crash. But Bledsoe was involved and was required by law to report his involvement. Bledsoe is charged with a felony and could face 4 to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Bledsoe has been cited for several traffic violations since the late 1980s, including speeding, disregarding a stop sign and operating an uninsured vehicle, according to court records. He was also placed on supervision for a misdemeanor domestic battery offense in 2004, records show.

The motorcycle crash happened at 8:04 p.m. May 29 on the 41W000 block of Route 64. Smith, 40, of the 200 block of Sunbury Drive, St. Charles, was driving the motorcycle and died later of his injuries at Delnor Hospital in Geneva.

Smith’s wife was a passenger on the motorcycle. She was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.
