Woman charged in cat disappearance

BATAVIA - A woman suspected in a possible cat-napping that allegedly occurred in the 100 block of North Harrison Street was charged Monday in connection with the cat's disappearance, police said.

Brenda Scharlau, 55, of the 100 block of North Harrison Street, Batavia, was charged with one count of misdemeanor theft in the disappearance of Linus, a gray American short-hair cat that has been missing since May 28, police said.

Police began investigating when the owners told police neighbors said Linus may have been abducted, transported to a west rural area of Lily Lake or Virgil and released along the roadside.

Scharlau is scheduled to appear in Kane County Court Aug. 11.
