Geneva man ordered to wear SCRAM bracelet

ST. CHARLES – A judge on Tuesday ordered a Geneva man to wear an ankle bracelet that detects alcohol use after he was charged with an additional drunken driving charge.

Judge Kevin Busch ordered Mark J. Peterson, 52, to wear the SCRAM bracelet – which stands for Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor and takes readings through perspiration to detect any alcohol consumption.

Peterson was charged in June 2008 with drunken driving, stemming from a St. Charles arrest.

In May, he was arrested again in Freeport and faces aggravated driving under the influence, aggravated driving with a revoked license and driving the wrong way down a one-way street, police said.

After the new arrest, prosecutors asked Busch to increase Peterson’s bail, leading Busch to order the SCRAM bracelet.

Peterson returns to court July 16.
