STC Park District looking for volunteer fundraisers

By TIM KANE – tkane@kcchronicle.com

ST. CHARLES – Property tax does not pay for everything.

The St. Charles Park District is looking for volunteers who want to serve on the Park Foundation Board of Trustees, the district's nonprofit fundraising arm.

The foundation normally has 12 trustees, but it is down to eight.

Janet English, who served on the foundation board for nine years, said the foundation's current effort is raising money for Primrose Farm – a living-history museum that is the typical 1930s dairy farm – located on Crane Road.

Kirk Bunke, Primrose's manager, said the farm has nine head of cattle, three draft horses, eight sheep and about 150 chickens.

One ongoing cost is the price of feed on a farm, Bunke said. The animals eat twice a day.

He said a bale of hay ranges from $2 to $7, depending on the market and the season.

The foundation raised $189,000 about five years ago for the construction of the tower in Pottawatomie Park.

Most recently, the foundation also raised $10,000 to help pay for the building of a limestone water course that replicates a natural spring flowing into the Fox River and about $45,000 for playground equipment at Mt. St. Mary Park.

Trustees attend monthly board meetings –  the second Thursday of each month – and participate in special advisory committees on an as-needed basis.

Nominations must be submitted in order to be considered.

Letters of interest should be sent to St. Charles Park Foundation, 101 South Second Street, St. Charles, IL 60174.
