Arraignment for driver in fatal St. Charles crash postponed until next week

ST. CHARLES – The driver charged in a crash last month that killed a recent St. Charles East High School student will have another day in court next week.

Onofrio Lorusso, 18, Wayne,  is charged with four counts of reckless homicide and 12 counts of aggravated DUI in the June 14 crash that killed 17-year-old Cameron Godee, of West Chicago.

At the time of the crash, prosecutors said, Lorusso’s blood alcohol level was 0.227 – more than twice the state’s 0.08 legal limit – and he had marijuana in his system. Lorusso also just graduated from St. Charles East.

His arraignment Wednesday was postponed to 9 a.m. on July 9. At that time, he will have the chance to enter a plea.

His attorney, Gary Johnson, on Wednesday said he could not comment on the case.

Lorusso  remains out of jail on $50,000 bond, and must wear an electronic bracelet to monitor his whereabouts as well as whether he consumes any alcohol.

Godee was a passenger in a 2005 Ford Explorer that police say Lorusso drove into two trees in the 3100 block of Royal Fox Drive in St. Charles
