Hampshire man killed in rollover accident

BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP – A Hampshire man was killed Friday night after being partially ejected from his 1991 Chevrolet Suburban in a rollover accident south of Burlington.

Tim B. Haase, 35, of 14N668 Getzleman Road, Hampshire, was transported to Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, where he was pronunced dead.

Haase was driving southbound on Peplow Road between Ellithorpe and McGough roads at about 9:30 p.m. His vehicle came through a slight curve and approached a 1998 Cadillac Deville pulled onto the shoulder of the southbound lane of the road and parked, according to a press release from the Kane County Sheriff's Office.

The Cadillac was facing north in the southbound lane. Part of the Cadillac Deville was still in the lane of traffic.

The two vehicles did not hit each other.

Jean L. Prestidge, 56, of 11N060 Peplow Road, Hampshire, was cited for improper parking on a roadway. She had parked to get her mail.

She was not injured. When reached at her home Saturday afternoon, she declined comment.

The Suburban left the road on the west side and rolled several times, with Haase being partially ejected from the vehicle. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

Haase was apparently not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Kane County Sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler said.

"It does not appear so, however the investigation is still ongoing," he said.

It also is not known how fast the Suburban was traveling at the time or if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, Gengler said.

Members of the Kane County Sheriff's Office and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team continue to investigate the crash.

After the accident, Peplow Road was closed between Ellithorpe and Winterset roads until 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
