Fifth candidate to join GOP hopefuls for 14th District

GENEVA – State Sen. Randall Hultgren, R-Wheaton, will add his candidacy to the already-crowded Republican field seeking to reclaim its 14th Congressional District from Democrats next year.
U.S. Rep. Bill Foster D-Batavia currently holds the position, formerly held by Speaker Dennis Hastert. With Hultgren, there will be five vying for the Republican nomination in the Feb. 2, 2010 primary.
Hultgren, who served as a State Representative from 1999 to 2007 and then was appointed to the State Senate in 2007, will announce his intentions at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28 at the Peck Farm Park Orientation Barn, 38W199 Kaneville Road, Geneva.
Hultgren will also announce his candidacy at 4:30 p.m. in the Reagan Room at the Quality Inn, 136 Plaza Drive, Dixon.
Hultgren did not return an e-mail seeking comment Hultgren's spokesman did not return two pages and a voicemail message seeking comment.
Hultgren's candidacy joins a growing field of GOP hopefuls for the Republican nomination, including Jeff Danklefsen, 41, a maintenance man from Geneva, Ethan Hastert, 31, an attorney from Elburn and son of the former speaker, Mark Vargas, 28, a Defense Department employee from Elgin and Bill Cross, 42, a hardware-store owner from Shabbona.
Danklefsen plans to meet with voters 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Stockholm's Pub, 306 W. State St. Geneva, or at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, at at Four Beans Coffee House, 1928 W. Wilson St., Batavia.
Hultgren, also a former Dupage County Commissioner, was named a Champion of Free Enterprise by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce as his votes in 2007-08 reflected the chamber's position on bills representing the business community, according to his Web site, www.senatorhultgren.com.
Hultgren was also named a Guardian of Small Business by the National Federation of Independent Business for his 100 percent legislative record on small-business issues.
According to the Illinois General Assembly Web site, Hultgren serves on the Labor, Environment and Energy, Housing and Community Affairs; Judiciary Civil Law, and Insurance committees. He is Minority Spokesperson on the Labor Committee.
