A former state's attorney announced he'll run as a Kane resident judge in the February Republican Primary.
David R. Akemann has served in the legal arena for the past 32 years, including two terms as Kane County State's Attorney from 1992 to 2000. He recently announced that he'll run as a Kane County resident judge in the 16th Judicial Circuit in the Feb. 2 Primary.
In 2006 Akemann ran unsuccessfully for a circuit-wide judicial seat, which he said shows he has a following in Kane County.
"At that time I carried Kane County," Akemann said in a statement. "I am grateful for the voters support in the past and would ask once again for their support and their vote."
During his time as Kane County State's Attorney, Akemann instituted the Child Advocacy Center – which investigates and tries crimes of extreme physical abuse and sexual abuse against children – along with the domestic and elder abuse units.
He said he'll pass along that hard work and public service to the bench, should he be elected.
Akemann lives in Elgin with his wife Vickie. They have a son, Collin, who attends the University of Illinois at Champaign, and two daughters Carrie, who lives in California, and Julie, who recently passed the Illinois Bar Exam.
Also running for the Republican nominee for the Kane resident judge are associate judges Robert Janes and Leonard Wojtecki and Geneva attorney D.J. Tegeler. Elgin attorney John Dalton is running for the Democratic nomination.
