ST. CHARLES - Halloween offers the opportunity for people to don a mask or costume and become someone or something beyond their everyday self.

For fans of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” that means dressing up as their favorite characters from the movie.

They will have that opportunity at 10 p.m. Friday as The Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St. in downtown St. Charles, presents the movie with live actors on stage.

“It fits in perfectly with Halloween,” said Mike Spataro, creative director for Onesti Entertainment Corporation, which operates The Arcada Theatre.

The theater encourages audience participation.

“People are known to throw rice and toilet paper during the wedding scene,” Spataro said.

But leave your water guns and hot dogs at home, he said.

The Arcada usually will present the movie on the last Friday of every month. The theater started showing the movie about two years ago to generate audience participation.

“We also showed “Purple Rain” with a Prince tribute band,” Sparato said.

For the uninitiated, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” is a 1975 British musical comedy that parodies science fiction and horror films. The film is rate “R,” so leave your children at home.

The film enjoys a cult following. Past showings at The Arcada Theatre have drawn as many as 250 people, Spataro said.

Admission is $10, and advance tickets will not be sold.

A “Rocky Horror” prop kit is also available for purchase at the door, he said.

But the movie is not the only opportunity for people to dress up this weekend. The Batavia Artists Association at Water Street Studios will hold a Halloween Masquerade fundraising event from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday.

Water Street Studios is located at 160 S. Water St. in downtown Batavia. Tickets are $15 for members and $20 for non-members, and can be purchased at the door.

Costumes are mandatory and will be judged for the top prize of VIP tickets for two to a taping of Lynyrd Skynyrd at ‘’Soundstage” in Chicago.

More information is available at www.waterstreetstudios.com.

Also in the Halloween spirit, “The Night of the Living Dead: The Musical” will be shown at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Riverfront Playhouse, 11-13 S. Water Street Mall, Aurora.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors.
