SUGAR GROVE – Police continue to investigate a rollover truck accident on Route 56 Sunday night that left a man in critical condition.

Bert Lee Olson, 37, of the 300 block of North Ottawa Avenue, Dixon, remained in critical condition at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove Monday following a crash that occurred at 11 p.m. Sunday.

Police are having a hard time determining what happened because Olson was driving alone in his 2001 Dodge Ram Pickup and no witnesses have come forward. Olson has not yet been able to give police a statement, Sugar Grove Police Detective John Sizer said.

"It is kind of difficult to say exactly what happened," Sizer said.

How fast Olson was driving at the time at the time of the accident is not yet known, Sizer said. But he said that Olson was likely not wearing a seat belt.

"That played a significant role in the the extent of his injuries," Sizer said.

At 11 pm., a passing motorist who was west bound on Route 56, east of Route 47, reported seeing a pickup truck off the road.

Responding emergency personnel located Olson in the grass approximately 100 feet west of the vehicle. Authorities said that it appeared that he had been ejected from the truck when it rolled over.

Olson was transported to Mercy Hospital in Aurora and then to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

The crash is still under investigation.  Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have information is asked to contact the Sugar Grove Police Department at 630-466-4526 ext 37.
